Ultimate 30 Minute Macaroni and Cheese Recipe – A Recipe Guaranteed To Please Even The Pickiest of Eaters

Macaroni and Cheese is a kid favorite!  I’ve used a couple different macaroni and cheese recipes in the past, but this one seems to be the macaroni and cheese of choice, and I love that they love this recipe, because it is ready from start to finish (even for 200 kids) in less than 30 minutes!

I think my favorite was when a Mom told me that her daughter is a macaroni and cheese connoisseur and mine was the best she’s ever had!  You’ll love how quick and easy this recipe is – and so will your kids!

Ultimate Macaroni & Cheese Recipe

1 lb elbow macaroni
1 lb original Velveeta (or the store brand.. it’s all the same)
1 pint half and half cream
1/2 lb butter (1 cup, 2 sticks)
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
1 tsp mustard powder

  1. Cook pasta in boiling salted water according to package directions.  Drain and set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, over low heat, in a large pot melt butter with salt, pepper and mustard powder.  Once melted, add half and half, and whisk to combine.
  3. Add Velveeta and allow to melt, whisking occasionally.
  4. When melted, stir in cooked pasta, and cook over low heat an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.  Serve immediately, and enjoy!

Add ground beef, and make Cheeseburger Macaroni!  An absolute favorite at my school.  The kiddos gobble this one up every time.  Like macaroni and cheese, but with ground beef, and tastes like Hamburger Helper’s Cheese Burger Macaroni, except creamy, delicious and not processed!  If you’re sick of just regular macaroni and cheese, try adding some ground beef, and make Hamburger Helper at home.

  1. The thing is, if you are using velveta then it IS processed 🙁 was hoping for a healthy recipe… this is not it.

  2. Melissa Hougen

I just noticed that this is a little different than the PDF version with one using mustard powder and the other using cream cheese. I’m curious, which one is YOUR go to?

    • Depends on my mood. I didn’t even notice there was a difference, thanks for pointing it out. My mother-in-law always used mustard powder and my hubby seems to think it makes all the difference, and it does a little, but I like how the cream cheese makes it just so creamy!

  3. yummy that looks mighty tasty

  4. that looks delish

  5. I am looking forward a recipe similar to stouffer’s when done. Can this be done with cheddar and cream cheese instead of velvetta? If so should I add a bit of flour? Thanks!

  6. Hi Again,
I made it with 3/4 lb organic cheddar and a 1/4 lb block of cream cheese instead of velvetta and 1/2 tsp salt vs 2 tsp.
Omg so good! Just like stouffers!!
    Thank you!
