30 Minute Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe’s Make The Perfect Back To School Dinner

Back To School is just around the corner, so I wanted to share this recipe for Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe’s!  They are an easy weeknight meal that’s ready in only 30 minutes with all of the delicious ingredients found in a cheesesteak sandwich – just with a twist!

Ground beef can get boring, especially when we always turn to the classics like Meatloaf, Tacos or even Tatertot Casserole.  So, as I was scavenging through my fridge for something to go with this ground beef – an idea maybe, I saw the green peppers, and it came to me – Philly Cheesesteaks… but with a twist.  Awesome twist BTW… I knew that I had provolone from the abundance of lunch meat that I just bought, and we always have hamburger buns laying around… so Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe‘s it was!

These sloppy joe’s are ready in about 30 minutes, which I am coming to appreciate more and more lately.  I haven’t shared it with too many people yet, but I am going back to work, with D.J. when school starts, and my days are going to dramatically change.  I’ve been very blessed to be able to stay at home, working only part time, but now, I’m needed at the office, and I am ok with that, because I know that it us supporting D.J., and my family.  With the new job, comes the new hours.  D.J.’s been getting home around 6:20-6:30 every night, and we eat around 6:45-7:00.  I’ve loved being able to make these elaborate meals, because I had time to make them.  Now.. it’s going to be different.  I don’t want to eat at 7:30 or 8:00, so recipes that can be made ahead of time, slow cooker recipes, and quick easy meals like this will be in my (and your) near future.

This recipe was originally featured in my July 2017 Menu.  Serve some french-fries and a veggie along side your sloppy joes for a dinner the whole family will love!

Here’s how you do it…

1 lb, 80/20 ground beef
2 tbsp. butter
1⁄2 tbsp. salt
1⁄2 yellow onion, finely diced
1 tbsp garlic, minced
1 small green pepper, finely diced
1/8 cup steak sauce
1⁄2 cup beef stock
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1⁄4 lb provolone cheese, thinly sliced
hamburger buns

In a large pan over medium-high heat, butter until shimmering. Add onions and peppers, and cook for 2-3 minutes, until onions start to soften. Add ground beef, and cook, stirring constantly until no longer pink – about 8-10 minutes.

…like my spider man spatula?

Add beef stock, steak sauce and Worcestershire sauce to pan. Stir, scraping up any bits on the bottom. Reduce heat, and let simmer 10-15 minutes, until thickened.

Serve immediately on a hamburger bun. Top with provolone cheese and serve immediately.
