Bananas a little overripe? Turn them into Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats!
I got a bone shaped cookie cutter from work, and Anthony was determined to make some dog treats for Bella, so we made these easy Peanut Butter and Banana Treats with ingredients we already had in the house. I originally planned on making Banana Bread, but I forgot about the bananas in the fridge – and they were way past banana bread, so we used them for dog treats!
It’s no surprise that dogs love peanut butter, so right away this recipe is a winner! the recipe is really simple, and it’s ingredients you’ll probably already have at home! Making Bella treats was so much fun, Anthony really enjoyed making his pup her own treats! He was very impressed with himself.
I used my food processor for pretty much everything – I purred the oats into a dust, and then added in the banana and peanut butter until it was a big ball. Food processors are great tools!
Once the dough is made, it’s like making sugar cookies; roll out the dough, cut it, bake it! And you can eat this dough with no worries about raw eggs!
3 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 over ripe bananas (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 tbsp coconut oil, optional
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a food processor process oats until they are a dust. Save 1/2 cup oat dust to roll out cookies.
Add remaining ingredients to food processor and blend into smooth. If the bowl of your food processor is small, just mix the ingredients in a bowl!
Sprinkle work top with oatmeal dust, and roll out dough about 1/2″ thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut out treats.
Place in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Watch your puppy enjoy his treat and all the love you baked into it!
Store in a sealed container or ziplock bag for up to two weeks.
