I love the simplicity of Beer Can Chicken. It only takes about 5 minutes to prepare and once it’s on the grill, you can just walk away and let the grill do all of the work!
As if you couldn’t tell, summer grilling has been a very high priority on my list. This Beer Can Chicken makes me think of my childhood and when we were first introduced to cooking chicken on the grill. It was immediately a family favorite and still is to this day!
As a kid, we had a fancy beer can chicken stand, but you can make this fairly easy without one. We just use a roasting pan for the grill. It has a bunch of holes in it to cook veggies, and makes the perfect base for Beer Can Chicken.
Cooking chicken on the grill like this makes it unbelievably juicy with the crispiest skin – your perfect combination. The steam from the beer keeps the chicken nice and juicy on the inside, and the way the heat can circulate around the chicken on the grill makes for that perfectly crispy skin!
1, 4-5 lb chicken, gizzards removed
1 can beer
1 clove garlic
1/4 onion, sliced
2 tbsp fresh parsley
2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp dried parsley
1/2 tbsp black pepper
Preheat grill to 425 degrees.
Drink (or pour out) half of the beer and shove the garlic, onion and parsley on the inside. Remove the tab.
Generously season the entire chicken with salt, pepper and parsley.
Carefully place chicken on the beer can.
Place chicken on grill and close the lid.
Cook for 1 – 1 1/2 hours, turning 1/4 turn every 15-20 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
Remove from heat and let rest 5 minutes. CAREFULLY remove chicken from beer can, and serve.
