Elf On The Shelf Ideas

Christmas Countdown

Make a paper chain and attach it to a sign that says “Days Until Christmas”. Each day, remove a piece of the chain until Christmas morning!

Let The Elf Games Begin

Use some yarn or string, and tie your Elf to the ceiling with a note that says “Let The Elf Games Begin”. Take it a step further, and use the string to make a ‘net’ for your kiddos to walk into when they wake up.

Magic Glove

Get a cheap pair of gloves the dollar store, and leave it with a note that says:
“Can you believe that Christmas is almost here? I talked to the Big Guy, and he said that he is very proud of you, and to let you know that you made the nice list. Just make sure to keep up the good behavior to stay on the list. Once in a while, I may end up in a spot that I need to be moved from. I am giving you this magic glove so that you can move me some. There is one rule, however. You may move me once, and when you do, please move me close to the Christmas tree!”

Letters To Santa

Use Scrabble or Bananagrams tiles and leave a note to your kiddos letting them know that they need to write their letter to Santa!

If your tree is up, but not decorated yet, leave the Elf in the tree with a note that it’s time to decorate!

Arts & Crafts

Make a quick craft with Perler Beads or your kids favorite outlet, and leave your Elf sitting next to it, holding their masterpiece.

Set up some cans or bottles, and set up like bowling pins, knocking a couple over. Sit your Elf on the floor with a ball or a piece of fruit in its hand and a second piece close to the pins.

Put a Super Hero Cape on your Elf, and place it somewhere in your Christmas Village. Ours came with a shield, too.

Pop a bag of popcorn, and break it open. Sit your Elf in the microwave with the popcorn to “eat” it.

Or, open up the bag of popped popcorn, and spread it out on the table. Make a snow angel in the pile of popcorn with your Elf.

Hanging Around

Just let your Elf hang around in a high-traffic area of your home, like from the ceiling fan, or in the fireplace!

Mask Hammock

In our old home, we hung the masks on the wall, near our keys. I made a hammock with a mask, and let the Elf rest for the day.

Hide & Seek

Leave a note for your kiddos from your Elf saying “find me”, and then hide the Elf somewhere in your home. This could go on for a few days!
