White Rice – How To Cook The Perfect White Rice

Rice is a wonderful ingredient to have in your pantry.  It keeps for a long time, and has a very mild flavor which makes it an excellent accompaniment to a wide array of food – even dessert!  Rice swells to about three times from it’s original size when you cook it, so remember that a little goes a long way.

Equipment Required:

  • medium pot with fitting lid
  • wooden spoon
  • fork (not shown)
  • 1 cup measuring cup
  • liquid measuring cup


  • 1 1/8(2 tbsp) cup white rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups water (or chicken/vegetable stock)



Step One
Prepare all of your ingredients by measuring out water, rice and salt. 


Step Two
Place pot on stove over high heat and add water and salt.


Step Three
Bring to a boil. 


When boiling add rice, and stir.


Step Four
Bring to a boil again.  When boiling, place the lid on, and reduce heat to a simmer.


Wait 20 minutes.


Step Five
Remove from heat, remove lid, and stir with a fork.


Place lid back on and wait 5 minutes.


Step Six
When ready to serve, stir with a fork.
