With a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains, and healthy lunch options, our local Panera Bread is a regular stop for lunch!
Last year, Panera introduced it’s “clean menu” initiative – a promise to ban all artificial preservatives, sweeteners, colors and flavors on their “No No List” from it’s food by the end of 2016, mentioning customer demand for a healthier lifestyle.
Recently, as part of their clean menu initiative, Panera is proud to announce that all of their bacon is now clean! WOW! For a person with such a great love for bacon (especially since I couldn’t eat it for a couple years due to health reasons because of the preservatives in bacon), I was very excited to eat this clean, preservative free bacon, worry free!
I have always loved Panera’s healthy menu options, but what I love most about Panera, is their Day-End-Dough-Nation, where all Panera locations donate any unsold baked items to LOCAL charities to feed hungry families in our communities! In 2015, $1.7 million in product was donated! They also have their Community Bread Boxes that are located at the registers, and all cash and change gets donated to The Food Bank of The Rockies and Care and Share FOod Bank and Community Food Share. I can’t even begin to explain how happy this makes me, and how much more it makes me want to make Panera my regular lunch stop.
In addition to the new clean bacon, and the delicious foods we all already know at Panera, the staff at our local store is just so sweet. About a month ago, a girl I work with was at this location, and choked on her lunch. One of the staff members immediately ran out of the kitchen, and saved her life!
Anyhow, back to the food! We ordered a couple different things, and everything we tasted was absolutely delicious, and filled with smoky bacon! We all ordered off of Panera’s new fall menu.
The veggies on our sandwiches were so fresh, which in my humble opinion is what makes a sandwich! Now usually I go with whatever the Italian style sandwich is on each menu, but today I wanted to try something different and ended up getting the Bacon Turkey Bravo Sandwich, and D.J. chose the Roasted Turkey and Avocado BLT which we quickly re-named the BLATT, and Billy had a Frontega Chicken Panini.
I ordered a side of bread with my sandwich because the bread is my favorite part of Panera Bread – go figure, hunh? But, ya, their baguettes are just so delicious, I couldn’t help my self. I’m not sure what kinda magic they work, but the bread is just so light and fluffy on the inside, and the crunchy outside makes a perfect piece of bread. Don’t even get me started on Anthony’s feelings about Panera’s bread. I’m pretty sure that he would eat every loaf of bread in the store if given the opportunity!
D.J.’s BLATT has inspired him, which has been passed on to me to make as well, a BLATT trend! The fresh veggies, the delicious, guilt-free, clean bacon and the creaminess of the avocado really made this the perfect sandwich. I liked how the sandwich was cold, and the avocado didn’t get too warm, changing the texture. Every bite was really well balanced, and the sandwich was made so well that every bite included every element of the sammy!
Billy’s panini was a little under-cooked in the panini-press, it was a little doughy, but he loved the inside, and the doughiness didn’t even seem to cross his mind.
We had a really great experience at Panera, and we are excited to go back! Next time, I want to check out their bakery a little more and bring home some tasty baked goods and bagels! Hopefully soon for a Pumpkin Spice Latte too!
