Ignore No More: The Perfect Gift for Moms?
Christmas is edging closer and closer, and you may find yourself strapped for ideas for what to get your mom friends. How about the assurance that their kids will never ignore their calls again?
No, we’re not talking about having a long talk with their kids, either. Rather, we’re talking about an app that makes it happen. The past few years have seen the mobile industry grow to exponential proportions, with Gaming Realms, the tech venture which recently launched Total Gold, showing that smartphones now account for 17% of the world’s mobile usage. You’ve probably noticed that your kids are on their phones a lot too, and studies by Pew Internet Research show that 94% of teens use their phones to call friends, spending hours and hours a day just staring at their phones.
Yet when you call them, they don’t seem to pick up. It happens more often than we’d hope, but a mom from Texas has come up with a solution: Ignore No More, an app that locks your child’s phone when they refuse to take calls from you. Sharon Standifird, the creator of the app, said that she had experienced the bane of every parent out there: calls being ignored. So, she decided to learn how to make an app (Supermom material!) that made sure kids wouldn’t be able to use their phones until they returned their parents’ calls, and she made it happen.
Ignore No More
The app had a brief test run on Android and is currently being developed for iOS, but it’s available on Amazon right now for $0.99. The way it works is you download the app to your phone and designate your phone as the “Parent” device, get a hold of your child’s phone and designate it as the “Child” device, then set up the necessary emergency contacts (ie. 911 and you). Now, when you call or text and they don’t answer, you can lock their phone and set a password that they’ll have to call you to get! No texts, no games, no Facebook or internet. All they’ll be able to do is call you, or another emergency number.
The iOS version of Ignore No More is set to be released this month, so it’ll be out just in time for Christmas! It’s great not just for parents who are worried about kids not returning their calls, but it’s also an effective tool for limiting the amount of time they spend on their phones. You can purchase the app through Amazon here.
