Homemade gifts are a great way to save a few bucks, and to give fabulous gifts at Christmas. This year I have made two quilts, Christmas jammies, some hot chocolate mix, hot packs, tile coasters and coffee cozy’s!
These are just a few examples of things you can make. The hot chocolate mix is super simple, and it tastes delicious! Another few things that you can do for Christmas, which I am still in the process of making is, chocolate bark, Christmas cookies, chocolate coated crackly crunch candy (like sponge toffee), or even chai tea mix!
The hot packs are very simple to make, and if you sew, you’ll love making them for everyone on your list! Just throw it in the microwave for a minute or so, and place it on those aches and pains from all that Christmas shopping! I’m going to make a tutorial for these right after I finish this post! Yay!
The tiles are a great way to show off your kids, or great gifts for your kids to make. Head on over to Home Depot or Lowes, and pick up some white tiles – they are 16 cents. Then take those old photos, or some new ones and cut them to fit the tiles (4″x4″). Use mod podge (1 part water to one part white glue), and a foam brush. Smear some over the tile, place your picture, and smear it over the top of the picture. (I like to let the glue dry between placing the picture on the tile, and then mod-podging over the top). Let your glue dry. Spray the top with clear laquer (I use it twice). Cut some felt to fit the bottom, and glue it on with a hot glue gun. Wrap them up with a nice ribbon and give to family members!
I just love making homemade gifts. People really seem to appreciate them, and it’s a great way to get your kids involved in the gifting process!
