Growing up in Canada, Halloween was always cold and sometimes even snowed. Nothing warmed me up from the inside better than a big mug of hot chocolate as I tore into my Halloween candy… after Mom sorted (scavenged) through it!
Making hot chocolate is easy, and it’s so much better homemade. If you wanted, you could even open up some of your kiddos Halloween candy, and melt that into your hot chocolate – like any recipe, your possibilities are endless, just use your imagination, and you’ll come up with all sorts of delicious spooktacular Halloween treats! Use some food coloring, and make the hot chocolate green, and top it with chocolate sprinkles or orange, and top it with chopped up candy corn. Even make a traditional milk chocolate hot chocolate and make it look spooky with green whipped cream and mini chocolate chips!
This Ghoulish Halloween Hot Chocolate is sure to be a hit at any Halloween party (keep it warm in a crockpot, like punch) or for those trick-or-treaters after a long night stocking up on candy!
The recipe is simple and only requires a few ingredients:
4 cups milk (preferably whole, but at least 2%… or soy milk or almond milk will do)
2 tsp vanilla extract … the real stuff, not the artificial stuff here.
12 oz white chocolate (I used a Ghiradelli baking bar)
mini chocolate chips
In a small sauce pan, heat milk, salt, white chocolate and vanilla extract.
Stir constantly until the chocolate has melted and milk is simmering. DO NOT BOIL!
When it’s hot, pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and mini marshmallows.
Voila! Happy Halloween
