A Father’s Day Dessert The Kids Can Make | Dirt Cake Recipe

Dirt Cake is D.J.’s cake choice every year for his Birthday, and this year, we’re having it on Father’s Day as well!  Dirt Cake is super easy to make, and only uses a few ingredients that every kid loves!  I’ve even made this for Anthony’s class by layering the ingredients in little plastic cups instead of a big dish.  However you make this recipe, everyone will love it!

Dirt Cake lasts in the fridge for a few days too, so you’ll probably have dessert for a couple days after making it.

When I make Dirt Cake, or really any baking recipe with cream cheese, I opt for the whipped cream cheese.  You don’t need to wait for the cream cheese to come up to room temperature (unless it’s a cheesecake), and it’s already pre-whipped, so it makes incorporating it into dishes a lot easier!  Spreads better on bagels too!

Making this recipe couldn’t be easier, and your kids will probably be able to make it, without your help even.  Have your kids toss everything in the bowl of a stand mixer, so that clean up is simple, and your kiddos can eat the filling right off of the whisk, or out of the bowl!  Alternatively, a large bowl with a hand beater works just as well – I used this method for years until I recently got my stand mixer.  If you’re not comfortable with your kiddos using the mixers, just give them a big, heavy whisk and let them go to town!  And if you don’t feel like manually crushing up the Oreos, toss them in a food processor!  But, that just makes for more dishes ahaha!

Ingredients:

1 16 oz pkg Oreo cookies
1, 8oz whipped cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups whole milk
2 pkg (3.4 oz), instant vanilla pudding
1, 12 oz Cool Whip
gummy worms

Directions:

In a large ziplock bag, crush cookies with the bottom of a heavy frying pan, or with a meat tenderizer.  Divide crumbs in thirds.  Set aside.

In a large bowl beat cream cheese, butter, sugar and vanilla, vanilla pudding, and milk until smooth.  Fold in Cool Whip.

In a 9”x9” dish or in a clean flower pot, layer crushed Oreos and filling as follows: oreos, filling, oreos, filling and top with Oreos.
